Job Overview and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Ramp Manager and the Duty Managers, the Ramp Service Director (RSD) will be responsible for leading the team to ensure service and operational goals and objectives are met.

Whilst working in a designated area, the RSD will oversee the entire Ramp operation to maximize efficiency and ensure that all activities comply with regulatory and safety procedures.

  • The RSD will have a focused objective toward continuous improvement of specific departmental goals including motivating the Ramp team

  • The RSD will ensure communication links are maintained at all levels so the full department and the Ramp Departments stakeholders are all aware of what is occurring from a Ramp operational perspective.

  • As a working team member, the RSD will be required to monitor performance, coach and counsel team members when necessary.

  • Input regarding manpower, equipment, and procedures will be sought.

This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.


  • Must have a high school diploma or secondary school leaving certificate

  • Must have experience as an Airport/Airline Ramp Crew Chief for at least 12 months

  • Effective communication skills

  • Must be achievement focused and goal orientated

  • Must have the ability to assume responsibility and ownership for results, furthermore are able hold others accountable

  • Ability to manage performance and demonstrate effective leadership skills

  • Ability to coach and counsel team members

  • A proven track record of reliability in respect to timekeeping, flexibility and attendance

  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)

  • Must have a valid passport to obtain airport clearances

  • Full, clean UK driving license

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom for any employer without sponsorship

  • Regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with United's policies is required

  • Must be flexible to work all shifts and, when necessary, available 7 days a week / 24 hours a day, including holidays and weekends, to deal with any operational and /or unforeseen situations

  • Must be able to undergo a full background and Criminal Record Check that is a job specific requirement
